Focus on traffic calming in West Europe

A review of traffic calming concepts and practice in western Europe. It is argued that a major change in priorities is required in the UK, to promote, plan and fund more environmentally sensitive and safer street designs. Although written in 1993, this conclusion still allplies: there is much to be done before calmed street environments become the norm.
