Jubilee Line Extension Development Impact Study
Jubilee Line Extension, Development Impact Study, for Transport for London, 2001-2, as consultant to University of Westminster.
Phase 1 of the project, managed by University of Westminster (Director Prof. Peter Jones), was undertaken by Ove Arup & Partners. This established baseline data of development in the JLE corridor.
Phase 2 (undertaken by Tim Pharoah) was designed to assess whether and to what extent the Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) through to Canary Wharf and Stratford had prompted new development.
Findings
At the time, there was a development frenzy of new apartment blocks along the Thames riverfront. The presence of the JLE stations, and the high accessibility around those locations, for the most part did not counteract or challenge the supremacy of river frontage as the prime location factor. For example, initially there appeared to be little interest in development around Canada Water station. However, these sites were being developed by 2010.The JLE development impact unit
A research unit was established within the Transport Studies Group at University of Westminster, led by Prof. Peter Jones, and later Prof. Peter White.
