New village centre at Woodbrook (shared space)

New village centre at Woodbrook (shared space)

Local faciliites to serve the new development at Woodbrook are grouped around a square. The design includes a pedestrian-only area, and shared space to accommodate vehicle traffic and some parking. The design was the result of collaborative working between urban designers, architects, landscape architects, traffic and transport planners. There was also careful consultation with groups representing people with disabilities. There was considerable discussion and negotiation involved with groups representing blind and partially sighted people. This resulted in a shared space design without conventional kerbs that was agreed by all parties
