Speed management and the Role of Traffic Calming in Road Safety
In this report it is argued that strategies for the management of traffic speed (traffic calming) should be based on a speed classig=fication of roads and streets, and not simply on notional traffic hierarchies.
It calls for a more radical approach to speed reduction, including on main roads. At that time planning for lower speeds on main roads was controversial, but by 2020 many cities were actively implementing 20mph limits on main roads.
