Traffic Calming - the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Tim Pharoah points to traffic calming schemes that have been successful in both reducing road casualties and improving the appearance of streets. However, there are other schemes that have been poorly conceived or designed, while some that have been done on the cheap are ugly and contribute negatively to the street scene.
